Digital Panopticon

The Digital Panopticon is a collaboration between the Universities of Liverpool, Sheffield, Tasmania, Oxford and Sussex, with funding from the AHRC. Led by an international team of established researchers, it will use digital technologies to bring together existing and new genealogical, biometric and criminal justice datasets held by different organisations in the UK and Australia. It will explore the impact of different types of punishments on the lives of 90,000 people sentenced at the Old Bailey between 1780 and 1875, develop new and transferable methodologies for understanding and exploiting complex bodies of genealogical, biometric, and criminal justice data and create a searchable website.

The Prosecution Project

The Prosecution Project is investigating the history of the criminal trial in Australia. We will start by digitising the registers of Supreme Court cases that are available in most jurisdictions. These record the names of accused as well as their offences and the outcomes of the trials.

Brisbane History Group

The Brisbane History Group was formed in February 1981 to encourage and promote the study of Brisbane’s history. The BHG Research Library houses our collection of resources relating to the history of Brisbane and the surrounding region. Its core is the research material accumulated by historian Dr Rod Fisher during his academic career. Now holding over 11,000 catalogued items it continues to grow with new and recent publications.
